2015 THEME: Meaningful Brands; Retelling the African Story

It is my greatest joy to invite you to yet another edition of the inspiring conversations at the Africa Brand Summit 2015 to be held this 14th May .The inaugural summit held in March 2014 was a huge success with respected brands such as: Google, Samsung, LG Electronics, Ericsson, KCB Group among others represented. There was an impressive interest from government and their agencies on how branding can be a driver of a sustainable development-The Brand Kenya Board, Nairobi County Government and Kiambu County Government were just some of those present. Additionally, the heavy media presence and coverage , facilitated by the Gina Din Group, was a sure indicator that the African story needs to be re-told in a manner that portrays the continent as the ‘ World’s next economic growth frontier.’

This year, the Africa Brand Summit celebrates major milestones with the establishment of the Global and Regional Advisory Councils that provide strategic direction into the summit’s conversations and dialogue. The council members are drawn from over 4 different continents, and dozens of countries. This is a major step forward as we become more pan-African and woven together as Diverse Cultures. One Africa. One Brand.

The other day I was greatly inspired at the conversations that we had during the Advisory Council cocktail reception at Best Western Hotel in Nairobi. I may not be able to explain some things-you can only experience them you know..I hope to bring you to speed on some of our joys.

Motivating, around 60 guests drawn from diverse sectors joined us for the Canapés. It was really amazing seeing lots of folks from the United Nations, South Africa High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Ebru Africa TV, the Kenyan Government, corporate and non-profit leaders alike. What was intriguing is that everyone was so excited that we had to change the program of the evening to ‘open the floor’. I really hope it was not a “Wine High” but we can never tell.

The main theme was very youthful (almost hip) and was centred on change in mind-set to start thinking of ‘Possibilities and Inspiring New Ways’. We had the Chairperson of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians and Member of Parliament, Hon. Johnson Sakaja offer amazing insights, the Kenya UN Youth Representative, Wambui Kahara showed us the possibilities that are there and the SA Diplomat Ms Mishumo Madima reminded us how we can all partner for a better Africa

The 2015 Theme: Meaningful Brands-Retelling the African Story is inspired by the need for Africa to tell its own story. We reiterate the African proverb: “Until the lion tells his own story, the tales of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” This year we will be hosting some of the top brands, governments and individuals that are retelling the African narrative as a continent of not only hope but that of progress.

Moreover, we will be showcasing unique roundtable conversations focusing on the involvement of the Youth, Democracy in shaping the African brand.

Again, the summit will be held at Nairobi’s Intercontinental Hotel for One Power Packed-day of pure bliss! We look forward to host you, and to have you join us in “Inspired Conversations”.
